The Twilight Garden

We enjoyed an entertaining and interesting talk on Thursday night, with the very knowledgeable double act, John and Gail Summerfield from ‘Westshores Nursery’ in Lincolnshire. They explored many ways to get the best from your garden in the evenings and during times of the year when the light levels are low.   They then went on to demonstrate use of colour, structure, different types of lighting and shadows in the garden.  It was an excellent, multi-dimensional talk and we will certainly be getting them back soon, as they have a range of other talks on offer.

Winter Gardens Coach Trip

LOWDHAM HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

‘WINTER GARDENS’ COACH TRIP TO

CAMBRIDGE BOTANIC GARDENS and ANGLESEY ABBEY

Our first trip of 2014 is on Sunday 16th March to see the stunning winter gardens at Anglesey Abbey and Cambridge Botanic Gardens (for more information www.nationaltrust.org.uk/anglesey-abbey and www.botanic.cam.ac.uk).

We will be leaving from Lowdham at approximately 9am and travelling there by coach, where we plan to spend a couple of hours visiting each of the gardens.  There will also be the opportunity have a coffee, visit their shops and time for a spot of lunch in one of their cafés or restaurants!

All are welcome and the cost of the trip is £16 to LHS members and £20 to non members.  However there is a further £6 reduction to National Trust or RHS members as their entry into Anglesey Abbey is free!  This price covers both the transport and entry to the two gardens.  We are hoping for a bright spring day, but it could be chilly so wear sensible shoes and wrap up warm!

If you would like more details or to join our trip, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Social Evening

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL.

Just a quick reminder that we are hosting the Social with the History Society this Friday 10th January, 7.30pm at Lowdham Village Hall.  The Horticultural Society will provide the liquid refreshments, but if members could bring something savoury or sweet to contribute to the buffet, it would be appreciated.  We hope to have a fun evening with a few games and quizzes. It is also a chance for people to catch up with each other after the Christmas festivities and at the beginning of 2014.

Hope to see you all there.
