BATSFORD ARBORETUM COACH TRIP

On Sunday 2nd November, we are heading to Moreton in Marsh to experience the spectacular autumn colour at Batsford Arboretum and Garden Centre (www.batsarb.co.uk).  We will be leaving from Lowdham at approximately 9am and travelling there by coach, where we can spend time walking around the arboretum, visiting the garden centre or enjoying a spot of lunch in their café!

All are welcome and the cost of the trip is £12 to members and £16 to non members.  This price covers both the transport and entry to the arboretum.  We are keeping our fingers crossed for a bright, crisp autumn day.

If you would like more details or to reserve a place on the coach, don’t hesitate to contact me via the website.

SUMMER SHOW

Just a note to say thank you as your help and support was very much appreciated on Sunday and Monday.

Despite the poor weather the show was enjoyed by all that visited and it was nice to see new exhibitors this year with the addition particularly of the Hawks of Steele.

It is lovely that you were prepared to commit to be involved and give up a day to help us. Those who shifted, lifted, poured tea, coffee and offered cake, directed, delegated, cleared up, cleaned down, collected money and got wet.

Thank you

I would also like to thank those of you who entered the classes, as without the exhibits themselves there would be nothing to look at.

  • The cultivating and nurturing of all those flowers, plants, fruit and vegetables is a yearlong mammoth task involving expertise and knowledge. Thanks for sharing!
  • To grandparents, mums and dads, thank you for encouraging your young people to enter
  • To the cooks and bakers and jam makers! Thanks for slaving over a hot stove – it was definitely a feast for the eyes!
  • Floral Art – always a talking point – but we need more
  • Those crafty people creating the beautiful handicrafts – amazing! Again…. let’s have more!
  • ….. and all those fabulous photographs

Well done to all of you. You are very important. Looking forward to 2015

THANKS

On behalf of the Society I would like to say a big thank you to anyone who was involved in organising, helped at, entered in or attended our Summer Show yesterday.  The weather did not behave,  but despite that the show all ran smoothly!  It was great to see all the entries and that so many people turned up to support us in the rain.

Thanks to all those members who renewed their membership at the show.  If you didn’t get chance please send your £10 to Christine soon and she will give you details of this year’s exciting programme of events.  Our first talk of the year is on Friday 19th September, so hope to see many of you then.

THE SUMMER SHOW IS FAST APPROACHING!

Hopefully you are now thinking about your entries for this year’s Summer Show – schedules and entry forms can be downloaded from our website.

We are setting up from 2pm on the Sunday afternoon and help with this is always appreciated.  Entries need to be in between 8am and 10.30am on the Monday morning and the show opens at 1pm.  The tea ladies would love as many homemade cakes as possible, so if you get chance to bake beforehand, please do.  We have lots of events on again this year including the Carlton Brass Band, a falconry display and The Dako Flying Angels.  Any help running a stall for an hour or so would also be great.

Our new membership year begins on 1st September and we have an exciting year planned with varied talks, workshops and four coach trips.  At £10 a year it is excellent value, so remember to renew your membership on Show Day, and encourage others to join us!

See you all on Monday.  Let’s all keep our fingers crossed for good weather.
