SPRING SHOW REMINDER

Next Sunday, 17th April, is our annual Spring Show at Lowdham Village Hall.  Entries need to be in between 9.30 and 11.30am.  The show opens at 1pm with prize giving at 3.30pm. There will be a display of artwork by the ‘Lowdham Painting for Pleasure’ group as well as a display of floral art by the ‘Lowdham Saint Mary’s Flower Guild’. Admission is only £1.50 and refreshments will be available.

Donations of cakes for the refreshments and any offers of help will be greatly received.  Don’t forget to bring along your entries, including the ‘Sempre Avanti’ daffodils that our members were given to grow.  Mine are hidden in a shady corner in the hope that they will wait another week!   Hopefully the rest of you are having better luck with them!

Please come along and join us to enjoy the wonderful colours and scents of spring.

The show is free to enter and there are prizes for the junior classes.  Entries need to be in by 11.30am on the day and prize giving is 3.30pm.  The show is open from 1pm to 4pm, where there will be refreshments served, with spring flowers, floral arrangements, photographs and paintings to enjoy.

SOUTHWELL FLOWER POD TALK

Our next talk is at 7.30pm, this Thursday, 18th February at the WI Hall, Lowdham.  We will be visited by Anna Joyce from the Southwell Flower Pod.  She will be talking to us about their work, supporting adults with learning disabilities, developing their horticultural skills and growing cut flowers for local businesses and the community.  We plan to follow up this talk with an evening visit during the summer.  All are welcome and there is a small fee of £2 to non-members.

SOCIAL EVENING

HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all.

Just a reminder that this Friday, 8th January we are hosting the social with the History Society, 7.30pm at the Village Hall.  We shall we putting on a selection of quizzes and have invited John and Gail Summerfield (who presented our December talk) to run one of these – which should be fun!  As we are hosting we ask members of LHS to bring along something savoury or sweet to form part of a light buffet.  The Horticultural Society will be providing drinks, so no need to bring these.

I would also like to remind you that our next Coach visit is to Harrogate Spring Show on Sunday 24th April.  We are able to buy cheaper tickets in advance so the cost of the trip is very reasonable at £20 for members and £24 for non-members (this includes transport and entry into the show).  It would be great to take a coach full and all are welcome.  I will bring a sheet for people to sign up at the social and ask for payment well in advance as the tickets need to be pre-purchased.

Hoping to see lots of you on Friday evening.

Seasons Greetings

Well, here we are in December 2015, the bulbs and bulbous plants are coming through  and there’s so much colour in the gardens. What’s the date of the annual Spring Show?

Never mind all this, the above image is of the Lowdham Horticultural Society entry in the Lowdham Community Christmas Tree Festival of Journeys which was held on the 12th and 13th December 2015 in St Mary’s Church, Lowdham. The tree was decorated to depict the journey from seed. We hope those of you who visited the church enjoyed this and all the other beautifully decorated Christmas trees.

Finally, after a most enjoyable year of village shows, plant sales, evening talks, socials and wonderful visits may we wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and a Happy,Peaceful and Healthy New Year 2016.
