POTATO COMPETITION RESULTS

Thank you to everyone who tipped out their seed potato, weighed and photographed them.  The results were varied with some impressive crops again this year.

The winner of this year’s potato competition is Janet and John Straw as one of their seed potatoes produced a harvest weighing 967g.

This was closely followed by last year’s winner, Gill Nall, who once again has fed her potato well in order for it to produce a harvest weighing 955g.

A special mention to Mike Hoare who sent me a photo of a potato that he and Jacky had grown on their allotment as the single potato weighed 1003g! Maybe the largest potato will be a new class to introduce at our next show.

Thanks again everyone and enjoy eating your potatoes!

SUMMER SHOW CANCELLED

Sadly, we have had to make the decision to cancel this year’s Summer Show.  With current guidance and social distancing rules, we cannot see any way that we could safely and successfully run the show.  We will try and run some virtual activities and competitions instead, so please keep looking after those show potatoes!

It is a real shame as we know most people’s gardens have received more attention this year than ever before and if you are anything like us you are growing all sorts of vegetables and fruit too.

Hopefully we can return even bigger and better for our Summer Show in 2021.

In Memoriam

In recent weeks, the death has occurred of one of our Life Members, Joan Jervis. Joan was an active member of Lowdham Horticultural Society for many years until she moved away from Lowdham to live in Lincolnshire. Renowned for her baking, she won the cup on several occasions. She also ran Lowdham Brownies and was lollipop lady at the crossing near the Magna Charta for many years.
She died peacefully in a nursing home aged 87.

PLANT SALE

This year we have had to run our annual plant sale online. We have contacted our members and processed their orders. We still have some bedding plants, vegetables and tomatoes that can be ordered by anyone who lives locally to Lowdham. If you would like an order form and details of how to place an order with us please contact us via the website.
