APRIL TALK

Thank you to all of you who supported our Spring Show last Sunday.  It was a lovely day and it was great to see so many of you there.

Just a reminder that our April talk is at 7.30pm next Thursday, 28th April at the WI Hall, Lowdham.  We will be visited by Don Witton, who has been a gardener for over 40 years and an avid ‘Hardy Planter’ for 25 years. He is a member of three national garden charities, the Hardy Plant Society, Plant Heritage and the Royal Horticultural Society.  Don holds a Plant Heritage National Collection of hardy Euphorbia which has been featured on BBC2’s Gardeners’ World twice as well as BBC TV’s Tatton Park Show programme. He has staged exhibits at the Tatton Park Show for over10 years and has received a collection of medals including 2 ‘Golds’.  Don will be sharing his favourite talk with us, all about Euphorbias. All are welcome and there is a small fee of £2 to non-members.

We also have our annual plant sale on Saturday 14th May from 9am to 11am in Lowdham Village Hall car park.  We have bought in more plug plant this year to grow on and have grown a greater variety of vegetable plants to sell on too.  This has become an increasingly popular event and there are lots of good quality, reasonably priced plants available.  Please spread the word to people that you know who may be interested. Donations of plants for us to sell are always welcome!

Hope you are all enjoying the more spring like weather.

SPRING SHOW REMINDER

Next Sunday, 17th April, is our annual Spring Show at Lowdham Village Hall.  Entries need to be in between 9.30 and 11.30am.  The show opens at 1pm with prize giving at 3.30pm. There will be a display of artwork by the ‘Lowdham Painting for Pleasure’ group as well as a display of floral art by the ‘Lowdham Saint Mary’s Flower Guild’. Admission is only £1.50 and refreshments will be available.

Donations of cakes for the refreshments and any offers of help will be greatly received.  Don’t forget to bring along your entries, including the ‘Sempre Avanti’ daffodils that our members were given to grow.  Mine are hidden in a shady corner in the hope that they will wait another week!   Hopefully the rest of you are having better luck with them!

Please come along and join us to enjoy the wonderful colours and scents of spring.
